 How to Configure or Setup Cisco IP Communicator Phone ?


  1. Connect with EverestLAB (MSVPN)

  2. Download Cisco phone setup software and install it in your own computer 

  3. Now to configure the Cisco app,

    1. Double click on the “Cisco IP communicatoricon and open it.

(see right side of the image)


4. Click on the top left black button and select the Preference option.


5.  To setup TFTP server:

  • Click on “Network” tab 

  • In TFTP servers area:

  • Select Use these TFTP servers:

    •  Type below IPs

    • 172.16.0.16












(if you see grayed out TFTP, then you have to follow these steps:)

  • Right click on cisco IP Icon from desktop

  • Select “open file location” option

















  • Right click on “communicatork9.exe”

    • Choose properties”

    • Click on Security tab

    • Click on Edit button

    • Click on Add button











    • Type Everyone in “enter the object names to select” area 

    • Click on the “check Names” button and click on the OK button.

    • Select everyone

    • Give permissions for everyone full control and click on OK.


















6. Before open “Cisco IP communicator” app 

  • Open “Task Manager”

  • Select “Cisco IP communicator” 

  • And click on End Task button

( Note: this is important because, the app was running in the background so we have to close it first before run the new “Cisco app”)

  • Now open again “Cisco IP communicator” app” from Desktop icon

  • Right click on the cisco app > Run as administrator

  • Repeat the same steps which we already did previously for TFTP ( this time you won’t see a grayed out TFTP server= Call manager)

To setup TFTP server:

  • Click on “Network” tab 

  • In TFTP servers area:

  • Select Use these TFTP servers:

    •  Type below IPs

    • 172.16.0.16

(TFTP server is Cisco call ip manager IP address)

After type or insert the IP address we should ping that server from our computer (using CMD)

If we couldn’t ping that means it is not working)


7. Open CMD from your computer

  • Ping 172.16.0.16


8. Go to Call Manager:

  • Open Edge Browser > type 172.16.0.16

  • Click on the “Cisco Unified Communications Manager”

  • Login

    • Username: cucmapp

    • Password: @Everest123!!

9. Click on the Device > Phone

  • Click on Add new button

  • Phone Type: Cisco 7960 > Next

  • Select the device protocol: SCCP > Next

  • Configure Device Information 

    • So go to command prompt 

    • Type ipconfig /all

Note: check the Description and physical address : both should be match with Cisco Network adapter and Device Name 

Description           = Network Adapter

Physical address = Device Name

9. Physical Address of computer: A8-41-F4-3F-B2-44


  •  Change it in this form: SEPA841F43FB244  ( The Physical address could be different in each computer)

  • (In below pict I used different Device name or Physical address)

  • Filled up all the information like below for Device protocol and click on  Save button 



10. Now add a new DN so 

  • Click on “Add a new DN” option (below left side image)

  • Add “Directory number = phone number = 1088 ( in below right side image)

  • Then click on Save (left top) (1)

  • And click on the “Apply config” button (2) ( below right side of image)


Check Network adapter and device name both should be MATCH if not you should change it


Otherwise, the phone doesn’t work.

Now you should Test your phone to call your friends.
