How to fix corrupted .OST and .PST Files?

How to generate .OST archive files?

Generating an .OST (Offline Storage Table) archive file is not a typical practice in Microsoft Outlook, as .OST files are primarily used for offline access to Exchange server mailboxes and are automatically generated by Outlook. However, you can export or backup data from an .OST file to create a copy for archiving purposes. Here's how you can do it:

You can find the .OST file in below location:

C:\> Users > AKS (username) > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Outlook> .ost file.

To fix corrupted .OST and .PST files, follow these steps:

  1. First Close Outlook:

Ensure that Microsoft Outlook is closed before attempting any repair operations on .OST or .PST files.

  1. Run Scanpst.exe (Inbox Repair Tool):

  • Locate and run the Scanpst.exe tool, which is the Inbox Repair Tool provided by Microsoft.

  • The Scanpst.ext tool is typically found in the following locations based on your Outlook version:

    • Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16 (XX represents the version number).

  • Find out the Scanpst.exe file from the list.

  • Double-click on Scanpst.exe to launch the tool.

  1. Select the Corrupted File:

    • In the Inbox Repair Tool window, click on the "Browse" button.

    • Navigate to the location of the corrupted .OST or .PST file that you want to repair.

  1. Scan and Repair:

    • After selecting the file, click on the "Start" button to initiate the scanning and repair process.

    • The tool will scan the file for any errors or corruption issues.

  2. Review Repair Results:

    • Once the scan is complete, the Inbox Repair Tool will display the results.

    • Review the results to see if any errors or issues were found and repaired.

By following these steps, you can attempt to fix corrupted .OST and .PST files using the built-in Scanpst.exe (Inbox Repair Tool) provided by Microsoft.
